Privacy Policy - Simple Debt Snowball

1. Overview

Simple Debt Snowball is built with privacy in mind. The free calculator stores all your data locally in your browser — nothing is sent to our servers. This policy describes what we collect when you create an account or subscribe to Pro.

2. Data We Collect

Free users (no account)

Your debt data lives entirely in your browser's local storage — we do not collect or transmit it. We do collect anonymous, session-scoped usage events (e.g., which features are used, how many debts are added) to understand how the tool is used and improve it. These events contain no personally identifiable information and are not linked to any account. See section 7 for details.

Account holders (Pro)

Email address — used for authentication via magic link
Debt plan data — debts, payment config, and adjustments you choose to back up to the cloud
Billing information — handled entirely by Stripe; we store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status
Last sync timestamp — to show you when your data was last backed up

3. How We Use Your Data

To authenticate you and maintain your session
To store and sync your debt plans across devices (Pro only)
To process your subscription payment via Stripe
To send transactional emails (magic link sign-in, receipt)
To understand how the tool is used and improve the Service (anonymous usage analytics only)

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Service.

4. Data Storage & Security

Cloud data for Pro accounts is stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We do not share your data with third parties except as necessary to operate the Service (Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for infrastructure).

5. Data Retention

Your cloud data is retained while your Pro subscription is active. After cancellation, data is retained for 30 days and then permanently deleted. Local browser data is under your control and is unaffected by account status.

6. Your Rights

You may request deletion of your account and all associated cloud data at any time by emailing us. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

7. Cookies & Tracking

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking scripts. The Service uses essential browser storage (localStorage, sessionStorage) for functionality such as saving your plan and authentication tokens.

We operate our own lightweight, anonymous usage analytics. When you use the app, we record which features are used (e.g., "debt added", "wizard completed") along with a temporary session identifier that is randomly generated and discarded when you close the tab. We also record the country derived from your IP address via Cloudflare's infrastructure — your IP address itself is never stored. This data contains no personally identifiable information, is stored in our own database, and is never shared with third parties.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
